From San Diego State to the Playboy mansion

By David Moye

April 10, 2006

San Diego--Forgive Alison Waite if she doesn’t have her mind on school right now. She’s got more important things going on – like working for Playboy magazine.

The 24-year-old SDSU Gerontology grad student was picked to be the cover girl for this month’s edition of Playboy, which focused on America’s top ten party schools.

SDSU ranks No. 5 on the party school scale but Waite came in No. 1 by being picked the cover girl for the magazine.

“I’m excited about it. Being on the cover is the biggest perk to this thing,” says Waite, who believes it’ll be a fond thing to remember when she hits her golden years.

But now it’s time to strike while the iron is. She’s putting her grad degree on hold for a year in order to try her hand at being a Playboy playmate for a year.

“I’m leaving San Diego – which I love – and moving to a place across the street from the Playboy mansion,” says Waite, whose duties will include promoting Playboy at various events, such as the upcoming Kentucky Derby.

Waite is originally from Seattle, Washington, but chose to attend San Diego State because of the weather.

(Her other choices were the University of Arizona and the University of Hawaii.)

Although she has always thought about being a nurse, she admits the chance to pose for Playboy is the fulfillment of a longtime dream.

In some ways, it’s interesting that she’s posing for Playboy while majoring in Gerontology since one represents a symbol of youth and fertility while the other suggests the infirmities of old age.

Some might see a paradox but Waite says the connection is that “there’s a continuity about staying young and who you are.”

Waite got her big break with the help of Hugh Hefner’s ex-wife, Kristie, who noticed the future Playmate when she attended a Midsummer’s Night bash at the Playboy Mansion and got her in contact with magazine powers-that-be.

She relates that posing nude wasn’t as bad as waiting to see if she was picked for the magazine. She first applied last August and heard of girls who had to wait longer for approval.

Now that she’s the cover girl du jour, Waite is leaving San Diego for the bright lights of Los Angeles. She admits, however, that she’ll miss her Pacific Beach home and hang outs like Moondoggies. (“I’m glad they mentioned that in the article,” she adds.)

As for her time at San Diego State, Waite is happy she attended the school and that she represents its party school lifestyle to the rest of the world. “It was a contributing factor why I went there,” she states, emphasizing that there are other reasons why students should attend what is affectionately called “SUDS” by alumni.

The Playboy selection implies that the average SDSU student is a surfer who jets down to Mexico in the morning before class. Waite points out that not every Aztec fits that image and says she likes the school for the “diverse body of students,” adding, “The campus is phenomenal. I like both the historic and the new buildings.”

Other stats about Alison Waite:

§      Her measurements are 34C-24-34.

§      She’s 5’6” and weighs 117 lbs.

§      She’s a Scorpio, born on November 10, 1981.

§      Turn-ons are animal lovers, good conversation, sincerity, optimism, spontaneity, and uninhibited affection.

Finally, if you don’t like her based on the fact she posed for Playboy, Waite doesn’t care: Her turn-offs include people who are “close-minded, uptight, indifferent, negative, impolite and insecure.”

So there.
