Interview Four minutes and fifty-five seconds with Kristen Bell By David Moye November 14, 2005 San Diego--The name Kristen Bell may not ring a bell to you yet but that will probably change. The 25 year-old actress is becoming universally known as the star of the UPN series, Veronica Mars.
Vyuz: The creators of Veronica Mars say they pick the soundtrack music to reflect what’s going on in your character’s mind. Do you know what it’s going to be in advance or do you hear it for the first time when an episode is complete? Kristen: I don’t know the music in advance. I know that [series creator] Rob [Thomas] has this idea of this 17-year-old girl and it’s scary sometimes. He’s so dead on and everything. I don’t know who it is who picks every song but it’s phenomenal how it works. I’ve never heard of a lot of these bands but the soundtrack album is a really good CD. So when you’re watching the complete episode, that’s the first time you’re hearing the music? Yes, and it feels complete. I know it sounds corny but it seems like the audience is really into Veronica the character. Plus, it helps that the writers are so good at explaining who she is. I’ve watched it and I’ve never thought once that it was off from what it should be. You’ve done musical comedy in the past like the Showtime musical, Reefer Madness. Any chance your character will sing during the second season, like a musical episode? I think Rob suggested it one time and the boys in the cast were like, `No, we don’t sing.’ So if there’s a musical episode, I’ll probably be the only one participating.’’ You sang ``Fame’’ on the Emmy Awards. Has that increased your profile? I think it has a little bit. It’s kind of weird. I sang a lot growing up and I did it a lot in New York and I really haven’t done it in a while so I was a little rusty but it was really fun and I would love to do something like that again. Did you win? No. Donald Trump did. I mean Donald Trump in overalls singing ``Green Acres’’ would win anything. The studio where you film Veronica Mars is near Kearny Mesa. Do you ever hang out at all the Asian places that are nearby? Or the 24-hour taco shops? No, I haven’t. I’ve been addicted to Little Italy.
