Essentials

--Manuscript must be single spaced, 10pt. Arial, with a return, or "¶" between paragraphs. Align all paragraphs flush left.

--For style questions that are not answered here, refer to the "Associated Press Stylebook."

--E-mail submissions as MS Word (.doc) attachments. Manuscripts submitted as e-mail text will not be accepted.

--Include manuscript subject in e-mail "Subject" line.

How your article should look

Punctuation and keystrokes

" Double quotes All double quotes must be a single keystroke. Do not use two single quote keystrokes.
Em dash A single character, no space on either side. (In MS Word, type the leading word followed by "--" and the trailing word.)
... Ellipses Three keystrokes. If trailing a period or comma, the ellipses should have no space beforehand. If the ellipses follows a complete sentence, then a period must come before the ellipses.  In general, if the ellipses follows an incomplete sentence, place a comma before the ellipses.
Tab Do not use tabs, ever.

Spacing

Between sentences One space
Between paragraphs "Enter." Make sure you see "¶" between the paragraphs. Do not format the paragraph using "Spacing Before" or "Spacing After."

Interviews

Interviewer dialogue is bold. Do not put "Vyuz" or your name at the beginning of the paragraph. Interviewee dialogue is regular (not bold). Do not put the interviewee's name at the beginning of the paragraph.

Headlines

Writers are encouraged to include headlines for their work. Keep in mind that Vyuz may use an alternate headline. Writers are also encouraged to include a secondary headline--or further description of the article. (See italicized secondary headline in image above.)

Subheaders

Subheaders may be used. They should be flush left, bold, underlined. Do not use all caps.
