Vyuz Submission Guidelines

Vyuz San Diego welcomes submissions from freelancers and the San Diego community at large. Be sure to also review the Vyuz writers' style guide.

Here are some points to consider before contacting us:

First, all articles must be about San Diego or relate to the area in some way.

Second, our motto is "To cover and uncover," meaning we aim to cover what other local news organizations either can't or won't; and we look to uncover a San Diego that--for better or worse--few know exists.

Third, we are especially interested in esoteric news stories and exposés; humorous news items; social and cultural critique.

Fourth, Vyuz is not a liberal or conservative publication. It's a shell for the views of a diverse group of freelance and staff writers. Writers of all political leanings are welcome to submit.

--Writers submitting straight-forward news pieces should be aware of--and feel comfortable with--their articles appearing alongside satirical content.

--We consider news and commentary pieces that contain mature content (i.e., sex, vice, et al.).

--Presently, we do not accept pieces on national or world politics.

--Article length varies, depending on submission type: News and commentary, 500-800 words; Exposés, 800-1200.

--Pay rate varies, depending on submission type and length. For rates, contact us at info below.

--Query with clips before submitting for first time. Response given within one week.

News: Straight-ahead news

Satirical News: Must be factual and non-fiction, written with ironic detachment

Humor: Narrative or free-form

Commentary: May be either satirical or straight-shooting; cynicism and sarcasm are considered valued traits here

Sports: May be satirical or straight. Topic should be quirky or underexposed

Reviews: Generally straight-ahead, but with a satirical overtone. Sarcasm and humor valued
